Children · EthicsIt's unethical to have childrenFor2 comments·Sep 1, 2023
Reproduction is unethical, selfish and irrational...
At the core, reproduction is unethical because it imposes existence (with it's inherent multiple layers of sufferings and unavoidable death) without consent...
Reproduction kills, this realization made an anti-natalist of me decades ago, well before the term was coined...
Having children is irrational, but then, humans are fundamentally irrational animals just like every other species on this planet... It's irrational because there is no objective point or purpose to Existence... Life, let alone human life, won't survive the current stelliferous era, when the last star has exhausted its energy and the universe is devoid of any light and the only energy left is Hawking radiation from dissipating black holes...
---If It was really unethical, how did you end up on this god's green earth?
Because something is unethical, doesn't mean it does not happen right? Lying is unethical too, yet people lie all the time...
I got here because my parents did not think about the morality of reproduction, just like dogs and cats don't think about it, they blindly respond to their biological urges, it's irrational and emotional... I don't condemn people who reproduce, they can't help it, just like dogs and cats can't help it...
Let's try it another way, I challenge you (anyone really) to find me one, only one 100% unselfish reason to reproduce, only one reason that does not instrumentalize the unborn in any way... I contend that no one can come up with a valid one...
