She was invited by the designer of the dress she wore.
She did not pay the extremely high ticket fee.
She used her platform to share what she believed in.
Had she not used that moment as a platform it would have been a waste and I would have agreed that she was hypocritical however that's not the case.
Stop thinking she is referring to you as rich or that you are ever likely to even be a billionaire.
Even millionaires are considered poor compared to billionaires.
You current pay more taxes as lower or even middle class than billionaires do.

No -they put their money in off shore account, they don't give a crap about this country, they just live here to take advantage of the system and profit off the backs of their employees who are forced to be on welfare because they don't make a livable wage...

Main point being -it is unethical to be a billionaire and hoard wealth.

It is not just those on the right who are critical of AOC's stunt: it was not radical, but detracted from the actual issue of wealth tax and undermined her condemnation of the rich.

• The slogan on the dress was a problem not because it was too radical but because it was too anodyne; according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll from 2020 the majority of Americans support a tax on the wealthy.
• “If she had chosen to highlight a message that wasn’t already so broadly well received, then her act would have been seen as more subversive, as opposed to pageantry" New York Times
• AOC’s ‘Tax the Rich’ dress designer was accused of owing thousands in unpaid taxes and refusing to pay interns.
• She made a big deal about supporting a “sustainably focused, Black woman immigrant designer.” but didn't pay for her dress. It was 'borrowed'. She thought this made her less of a hypocrite but I feel it does the opposite.
• Her aim was “to break the fourth wall and challenge some of the institutions.” and “bring all classes in the discussion”. It is the working classes who are left out of the political discourse, not those who are the ruling class elites.
• AOC is the rich. She drives a $59,000 Tesla. She enjoyed the attention and glamour, drinking champagne and gallavanting with the elites she supposedly condemns.
• It is unclear how much this performative stunt achieved, when she is a politician with more individual power than most people to actually make a pro-active change in policy.
• The controversy ultimately took away from discussion around the issue of wealth taxation and instead became about AOC.
