**TL;DR - This pandemic has made most realise that celebrity lifestyle is so far out of touch that it is almost laughable when they try to be ‘relatable’** I think it's fair to say that most of us have not had the best year of our lives. A global pandemic, locked at home, no in person events, no holidays and you couldn’t meet friends or family. I think we can chalk 2020 up as a bad year for the regular person. However, celebrities have still managed to do all of those things I have just mentioned. We have seen an in person Oscars ceremony, many have been in Mexico or Bali, and have seen friends and family. Kim Kardashian even hired a private island so she could see her family. How is this fair or even in touch with our reality? This is where I struggle to understand how celebrities feel a need to tell us how to vote or what to support or believe in, even if I agree with their opinion. Their reality is so far fetched from our own that it seems so illogical for them to have so much influence. The one rule for them, one rule for us concept rings true in this case.

**Celebrity life is very different from the life of a regular non-famous person. This makes it very [easy to forget] (https://www.thenationalnews.com/opinion/why-it-s-hard-to-see-celebrities-as-real-people-1.154420) that they are still people, they are just accustomed to a very different way of living.** - We are highly adaptable creatures, but once we've settled into a way of life, it's difficult for us to fully conceptualise anything different. Most celebrities are well-versed in a life of being recognised by everyone, having access to whatever they want, not being able to go out easily, etc. These are all alien things to most regular people. - When we say that celebrities are 'out of touch', we usually mean that they have it incredibly easy & skate through life, unlike the rest of us. And this can be true! As was brought into sharp focus [during the pandemic] (https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20200724-how-the-world-turned-on-celebrities), when large parts of the world were living on a hand-to-mouth basis. - But they aren't another species — they're just people who are accustomed to a very different mode of existence. It's a lifestyle that comes with its own problems, like issues of privacy, harassment, loneliness, etc. And the surface-level immense privilege can make it easy for us to disregard the [darker side] (https://people.com/celebrity/celeb-confessions-that-will-make-you-never-want-to-be-famous/?slide=6075425#6075425) of fame. - It's also worth remembering that the 'out of touch' nature of celebrity lifestyle is part of what creates their appeal — there's a definite aspect of [escapism] (https://www.livescience.com/18649-oscar-psychology-celebrity-worship.html) in celebrity culture.
