Yeah no. As a parent you don't get to decide whether or not your child's genitals get mutilated. It is egregious that this topic is handled as casually and dismissively as it is.
I've been with several male partners over the years, anybody who says that a circumcised penis is a simple side grade to an intact penis has absolutely no clue what they're talking about.
Oh and to say nothing of "female circumcision"... It's deliberately designed to minimize her sexual satisfaction. What a horrible thing to do to an innocent baby. The male equivalent would be removal of the glans, making orgasm almost impossible.
I'm against circumcision, and would be in favour of implementing some measures to reduce the number of circumcisions, but I sort of took the prompt literally and am against it being illegal. Obviously, it should be kept legal for procedures done for health reasons, as well as for an adult to make the decision regarding his own penis. Circumcising a child before they can consent to it is iffy, especially if it isn't attached to any religious practice. Anyway, in agreement with everything you said, it's just our interpretations of the prompt that differ.
I agree with you only in the sense that adults should be free to hire a surgeon to mutilate themselves in almost any way, provided it won't literally kill that person.
But no, circumcisions happening to kids before 18 needs to stop entirely. And honestly, I don't think you're qualified to answer whether or not you want to be circumcised until you've had a variety of sex, and studied what actually happens to the nerves after a circumcision. We HAVE to let people get circumsized when they're adults. But... We need to educate everyone that this is a horrible, risky, useless practice.
I would urge, even outright Jews, to please consider selectively ignoring the circumcision rules as they ignore many other of God's rules.
there are many practices from the past that we consider barbaric today, and i always wonder which of our practices will future populations consider barbaric. it’s hard to say, but i feel like circumcision is gonna be one of them
Female circumcision destroys a woman's capacity for sexual pleasure, and in many instances renders sex painful. Should be illegal.
Male circumcision is not much more than a cosmetic procedure with health benefits - hygiene, decreased risk of UTIs, penis cancer and STDs... Should definitely not be illegal (and I highly recommend!)
I don't usually like to lean so heavily on an emotional argument, but try telling that to my male sex partners. The frenulum, and some other nerve centers, are almost always irreparably damaged. Some worse than others. This isn't an uncommon thing. This is a natural risk of a procedure that removes something thin, delicate, and LOADED with nerve endings. You just can't predict how scar tissue will affect the end product.
Circumcision should only ever been considered as a last resort solution to extreme cases of phimosis. Manual retraction therapy, partial circumcisions, etc... There's a lot of options that don't involve the total removal of the foreskin.
ALL circumcised penises are incredibly insensitive actually. It's not a simple sidegrade, or a preference. As far as I'm concerned, anybody who acts like these two penis types (mutilated/intact) are side grades obviously has no personal experience in the subject.
Even people with phimosis aren't very likely to develop a UTI. I have struggled with phimosis my entire life, I am that incredibly rare exception of a person who should seriously consider a circumcision. Never had a UTI. But I've seen what circumcision does to men's performance and pleasure, so **** THAT... Cut guys really don't know what they're missing, and it's depressing as hell to think about. I'll live with my 25% dysfunctional phimosis penis if it means not losing over half my total sensation, thanks.
Decreases the risk of penis cancer because there is less penis, at the cost of a fully functioning penis. Does not prevent people from getting UTIs, and UTIs have various other preventative methods that don't require an irreversible surgery. Same goes for STDs. More hygienic because there is less penis to clean, but if you have foreskin or ask anyone that has foreskin, it's not a big deal unless you were born with phimosis, where circumcision is only recommended if it is strangulating the penis.
It should only be illegal for individuals unable to consent. The entire practice should not be made illegal as it harms nobody but the individual.

I feel the premise lacks context in the sense that as it is now circumcision is the parents choice rather than the child's so I chose not to vote on this statement
Non-consensual circumcision should be banned. No weird exceptions.
I think you may not realize that there are religions that require it (for some reason) but not getting it in those circles can have a social impact on you while I do think banning circumcision altogether would be a good thing you'd first have to tackle those faith based preconceptions before being able to enact it into law otherwise at least in the US where I live it could have potential to violate freedom of religion it's more complicated right now than just an all out ban just like abortion it'll lead to it being done at a hospital or by a doctor vs it being done in a hotel room or secretly at home. If the question was "Do you think the circumcision of children is bad" then I would have said Strongly agree.
Male circumcision at birth: legal.
Female circumcision: voluntary only.
Male circumcision after childhood: voluntary only.
