In disagreeing with this opinion, I'm playing devil's advocate a bit, because I understand the potential intent of the statement, which probably is meant to imply something like this: "people shouldn't have the expectation set on them that they need to attend a four year institution in order to succeed in today's society, because there are many other pathways to a fulfilled and successful life including two-year degrees, apprenticeships, bootcamps, entrepreneurship, etc." However, I think that the basis for this statement is also the fact that four year college in the U.S. is significantly more expensive than what many can reasonably afford, and this drives students into debt that may not be prudent given the other pathways stated above. I'd argue that college *should* be for everyone insofar as we should make it an affordable or free option.

I'd go a step further. College isn't for most people. We raise kids as if they're all going to be doctors and lawyers and shit, and that's just... not realistic AT ALL. Now, ongoing education? That IS for everyone. But education doesn't necessarily have to involve college. This weird practice where we take naive kids and encourage them to take up massive amounts of debt to enter useless/impossibly competitive fields has GOT to stop. Stop treating tech school like an ALTERNATIVE education option... It should be the default. The message to kids should be, "It's okay to go to college. But unless you really really want to, you probably shouldn't."
