E-sports certainly require a great deal of mental strength and coordination, but perhaps not as much actual athletic prowess as other sports.

• There is an ongoing debate about the amount of skill and/or physical activity that must go into an activity that make it a sport. In fact, even basic dictionaries define sports differently.

1. The Oxford dictionary definition is as follows: "An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.”
2. Dictionary.com says sports are: "an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.”

• The key difference between these two definitions is the use of “and”/“or” between the words skill and physical exertion. Basically: "Choose one definition and esports qualifies as a sport. Choose another, and it’s a harder sell.”
• If we look at sports broadcasting channels such as ESPN, they added e-sports to their official coverage in 2016, but the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) doesn’t include esports on its roster of official sports. There’s clearly not a universal agreement on the status of esports as “real” sports or not.
• E-sports are more intense than casual gaming, and the whole program is rooted in competition, strategy, and mental stamina. The question that probably divided audiences most is one of physical stamina.
