There are a lot of cases where people think "well I want to be an artist. Why am I taking math?" Or "I wasn't taught how to do taxes, but I'm glad I know the Pythagoraean theorem". (You probably were taught to do taxes but it was in a "boring" class. People who are not literate in Science and Math classes are remarkably easy to fool and manipulate. And that's not a hypothetical. Advertising agencies and especially politicians bank on exactly this. Want something to sound healthy? Say it is rich in B-12. Want it to sound dangerous? Say it had 10 times the daily exposure to cyanocobalamin. Want to make something sound clean? Say it contains naturally-sourced soaps. Want it to sound toxic? Say it contains synthetic detergent. It sounds dangerous if you call it a "reproductively sourced emulsifier". It sounds safe when you reveal it is egg yolk. Want to make bacon sound deadly? Say it multiplies your risk of fingernail cancer by 500%. Want it to sound like a non-issue? Mention that the risk went from 0.000001% to 0.000005%. Want people to believe women are dying in battle uncontrollably? Mention that the percentage of women as military casualties doubled. This was actually done earlier in the Iraq war when female casualties as a fraction went from like 1% to 2%, because male casualty rates went down. People ignoring these subjects tend to -"shop organic" without knowing what it means. -go "gluten-free" because of "inflammation" without actually being gluten-intolerant. -take "detox shakes" which essentially inflame the digestive tract causing diarrhea. -avoid vaccines because of "autism" or "government tracking" -Avoid vaccines because they prefer "natural immunity" or to "rely on the immune system". Like this is literally what vaccines are FOR. -Think that there are 10 million illegal votes made. -Think that solar panels and wind turbines are taking coal jobs away when it's really natural gas. -Think the earth is flat. -Think that scientists are remotely capable of some global conspiracy to make up climate change (for what purpose?) -Think Bill Gates wants to eradicate humanity because they do t know the difference between "reducing population growth" and "reducing population". I can go on and on. It's easy to make illiterate people believe anything if you know which numbers to show and which to withold, or simply how you present information. It makes it remarkably easy to just simply tell a lie and have people follow it because they have no standard for assessing objective truths.
