Historically, White and Black women have been treated as the inferior of the genders and have suffered the same oppressions and fought for including the right to vote, hold public office, work, earn equal pay, or receive an education. White supremacy and patriarchy are two systems of oppressions that black women had to face being the subject to the evil of racism. The feminist movement helps to uphold the system of white supremacy so if we want to be treated as equals, we have to use our voices to tell the realities and experiences of Black Women. The feminism movement of the 70s was driven by white middle-class women, so racism wasn't a priority. If we take into account that Black Women had to face the problem of gender and racism was held as a minor problem, the rights of women, mostly white woman was the real concern of the movement. Slavery and the sexualization of Black Women are two of the main reasons why feminism didn't valorate Black Women. During the colonization, Black Women were treated as objects sexualized and abused by white men. The problem was that white women didn't make use of feminism principles to give voice to black women but quite the opposite: They were seen as a threat. In my opinion, being a feminist also implies beings anti-racist. While nowadays white and black women have to fight oppression, Black Women have to face discrimination and double inferiority towards racism. If we want to achieve full freedom, it must be for all of us.

Feminism is the political ideology that calls for the advancement of women’s rights so that there exists equality between the sexes. -Feminists are working in spaces to give females equality. However, these advancements have not always been for ALL women, predominately serving white women’s interests. -This is something abolitionist and women’s rights activist Sojourner Truth pointed out in that white feminism at the time didn’t speak to the interests of people like her. -This isn’t to say feminism is racist, but it is to say that those working in feminist spaces often neglected the black female perspective. - Black feminist theory so rightly points out that black women are positioned completely different within structures of power compared to white women. -This is the same for Asian feminists, LGBTQ feminists and so on. Drawing on feminist standpoint theory in that not all women will have the same experiences and epistemic standpoints.

But although the movement has made significant progress over the last decade, this doesn’t mean it’s without fault. • There are often debates within the feminist movement about how representative it really is of all women and whether this can do more harm than good. [Black women have spoken up](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/decades-exclusion-leave-black-women-skeptical-womens-march-n710216) in the past about the exclusivity that feminism can sometimes exude and how this has therefore resulted in their disassociation with the movement. • Problems exist within the feminist movement and often by only focusing on the historical oppression of white women, feminists have failed to consider the key role that race plays in the inequality that exists. But I don’t think this makes it a _racist_ ideology. Nor is it particularly helpful to give it such a weighted label. • However, the feminist movement must do more to highlight the importance of inclusivity and promote _intersectionality_ such that more people feel able to identify with the core principles of feminism.

Even Uncle Ben's rice is racist these days so perhaps feminism is too? Despite being Tanzanian in origin I get called a racist all the time by people on the internet until they see my picture. So who knows anymore? Who makes the rules? No idea.
