In John 20:19, ‘On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”’. The writer of this gospel emphasises the fact that the doors were locked, which implies that Jesus somehow passes through them. This seems at odds with arguments for his physical body, implying some kind of supernatural disembodiment, just as in ghost lore. - There is other Biblical textual evidence of Jesus appearing and vanishing from nowhere, in the manner of a ghostly apparition. In Luke 24:36, Jesus appears very suddenly, startling his disciples: ‘While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”’ Likewise, in Luke 24:31, Jesus vanishes in front of the disciples: ‘Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight’. - In both Matthew (14:26) and Luke (24:37), the disciples see Jesus and think that he is a ghost. Both times, Jesus immediately tries to shut this down; in Luke, he tries to disprove this by showing the disciples his crucifixion wounds, getting them to touch his physical body, and eating food in front of them. He says to them ‘Look at my hands and my feet. It is myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have’. Now, doesn’t that sound _exactly_ like something a ghost would say?
