The Margherita may not be the "best" pizza, but it was enormously influential in the development of pizza in general.
Ingredients for a Margherita pizza: Red tomatoes, white mozzarella, and green basil. The Italian Queen Margherita purportedly sampled this type of flatbread on a visit to Naples in 1889. She decided it was her favorite, according to the legend - which may be, though, only a legend.
Regardless, the Margherita helped create the modern-day pizza, with tomatoes and mozzarella becoming staple ingredients in its wake.
The Margherita pizza was named one of the most influential pizzas of all time by TIME Magazine in 2014.
I'd never thought about pizza from the perspective of impact before... ;-)
