This subject should not only be for private schools but for all schools** As someone who has experience studying in both state run schools and private, I noticed that philosophy was only taught in private and it was more R.E (Religious Education) at state school. This may not be the same for everyone, however I think the benefits of philosophy should be available to all students. As out society changes, addressing ethical and philosophical questions is essential. Again philosophy teaches great listening, debating and communication skills that would be great for all students whether more STEM inclined or otherwise. It is not a subject that should only be for the elite. It has so much potential to create great discourse. One thing I also believe is that philosophy promotes RESPECT. As students discuss all different subject matter, they learn to respect one another and talk about thoughts rather than bottling up emotion or staying silent. Absolutely. If philosophy was taught there were be a greater understanding of our relationship to nature and how it important it is, also the mind, how it works for and against us, our relationship to the whole world and the people around us, how our behavior and actions have a rippling effect. If philosophy was taught there would less war, less rape, less violence against children, women, animals and minorities...we would would understand that hurting another is like hurting ourselves...it would teach us to care about everyone and this planet, we are only on it a very short time!!
