**TL;DR Pine furniture is revolting** Pine wood makes by far and away the worst furniture. Specifically, that orange-yellow variety. This is an opinion formed largely by association: its strong association with the rustic (kitchen) look both dates it and damns your interiors to look anything other than a bad job at a rustic style.(2) The most potent downside is the way it interacts with light. If you were to have a white painted room absolutely full to the brim of this orangey pine, it would cast a faint yellow wash over the whole room. It’s dim, dank and dull. By far the worst offender is the bedroom set, beloved by landlords up and down the country(3). Enormous wardrobes; robust dressers and dressing tables (for the more moneyed tenant). Always, always with plywood backing that gives out after a few years and traps your knickers in the small gap made between the base and the back. Its only competitor for the title of most egregious material is the sort of laminated beech affair that makes you feel as if you are living in an office. If you’d like to feel particularly like you’re living in a student dive you should pair it with a cream popcorn wall. Pine can make good furniture. Firstly, pine is a stiff wood so is durable and strong. It is also light in weight in comparison to other woods resulting in it being easy to move around. Furthering this pine as a wood is also significantly cheaper than oak for example. Therefore, if you are on more of a budget pine might be a good option for you. Additionally, pine itself comes in different shade, some yellowish but some relatively light. This means that depending on your space, you can choose a different shade of pine showing versatility. As pine is cheaper than a wood like oak, it means that there is more money in the budget to stain it to the colour you would prefer rather than spending lots of money on another wood only to paint over it.
