Maybe once upon a time, religion was a necessary proto-government.
Thing is, humanity is growing up. It's about time we put away childish things.

I think the point you make is an interesting one!
One build... I wonder if there is another way to say the second statement about childish things? I could see this making it difficult for people who are religious to engage with the idea.
Maybe something about "as humanity has evolved other institutions are better situated and organised to benefit society?"
Or something else?

People are probably more likely to listen to me if I didn't talk about their beliefs in such a dismissive way, (e.g. religion =/= childish)

Ahhh rebuke is so strong. I was thinking more a gentle build? 😂
But yes, I think this is the biggest trick on Parlia... how can we have conversations across topics with people that disagree in a way that allows them to engage with the idea without being put off.

Depends on what you mean by "religion".
Statist media outlets have done a very effective job at both:
A) Highlighting the negative aspects of religious entities, and
B) Completely ignoring the charity religious organizations perform
Are you specifically referring to the belief in a supernatural numen and the tenants of morality laid forth in popular religious doctrines?
Or do we include the actions that the religious would attribute to those beliefs?
Many people treat their belief in statist propaganda as a religion unto itself, whilst comically bashing "religion" all the while.
