**TL;DR: Everyone should be provided a safe space, even if there is a safe space for people we disagree with. Though there are complications with safe spaces it does not inherently make them absurd/dangerous.** * In theory, safe spaces are definitely not dangerous. The concept of a safe space is to provide a, well, space, for people to express themselves, their feelings, and their beliefs without fear of retribution. I do not see anything inherently wrong with this concept. Let’s take BIPOC students in predominantly white institution (PWI) for example. Many students of color may not feel comfortable or welcome in spaces that are largely inhabited by white people. Therefore, there should be spaces where they can gather without the constant demand of adhering to white standards. The same goes for people in the LGBTQ+ community, women, and yes, men too. This does mean that, technically, everyone should be provided a safe space, even if there is a safe space for people we disagree with. * However, I do see the fears that can arise with safe spaces. How can we tell if safe spaces are going “too far” or becoming too exclusionary? When does a safe space no longer become safe? There are definitely nuances to safe spaces, but I don’t believe labeling them dangerous and absurd is a correct observation.
