**TL;DR - sleeping naked is good for your health. It can help with mental health, physical health, and sexual health.** Firstly, sleeping nude can help [decrease your body’s temperature and help you achieve higher quality sleep](https://casper.com/blog/benefits-of-sleeping-naked/#:~:text=Sleeping%20nude%20can%20help%20decrease,body%20to%20go%20to%20sleep.). If you get too warm while you sleep, it can disrupt your REM cycle. A decrease in body temperature also acts as a biological cue for your body to go to sleep. Sleeping nude can help you quickly decrease your temperature and fall asleep faster, which can lead to more dependable sleep that’s consistent with proper sleep hygiene. Since sleeping nude can help lower your body temperature and produce higher quality sleep, dozing off in the buff can help decrease stress too. [A study](https://academic.oup.com/psychsocgerontology/article/72/3/363/2631941) run by The Journal of Gerontology that studied sleep patterns and their effects showed an intimate relationship between sleep and stress levels. [One study](https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10902-017-9846-1) found that spending more time naked improved participants’ self-esteem and decreased body image dissatisfaction. The study also cited the cultural impacts on body image and how even just spending more time naked can help overcome those mental blocks and unrealistic standards. [Another study](https://journals.physiology.org/doi/full/10.1152/japplphysiol.00547.2017) looked at whether poor sleep limited the skin’s ability to heal from a small wound. They split participants into three groups — one that received “adequate” sleep, one that was sleep deprived, and a third that was sleep deprived but received extra nutrients. What they found was that the group that slept well recovered faster than the other two groups. And the extra nutrition didn’t make a significant difference in how fast the wounds healed. [Frontiers in Psychology](https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2014.01529/full), focused on the effects of skin-on-skin contact between adults. Their results showed that “oxytocin is released in response to low-intensity stimulation of the skin, e.g. touch, stroking.” This suggests that sleeping nude with your partner can help increase skin contact and, in turn, produce a higher oxytocin release than clothed cuddling.

**Bare, unrestricted sleeping benefits both the body and mind.** It seems odd enough to be an old wives' tale or even a strange superstition, but it’s actually fact-based. Aside from the multitude of benefits resulting from a lower body temperature that sleeping naked provides, there are other advantages, including: → [Decreased Cortisol Production](https://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifestyle/10-benefits-sleeping-naked-you-probably-didnt-know.html): _Heightened production of melatonin and growth hormones helps lower anxiety and stress levels._ → [Reproductive Organs](https://www.ghp-news.com/2019-a-nude-expert-explains-why-sleeping-nude-is-better-for-your-health/#:~:text=Pajamas%20can%20restrict%20air%20flow,and%20make%20them%20more%20fertile): _The lack of restrictive underwear raises male fertility rates. For women, the increased ventilation leads to increased vaginal health._ → [Circadian Rhythm](https://casper.com/blog/benefits-of-sleeping-naked/): _Increases sleep quality by promoting uninterrupted sleep._ Even though it may take some getting used to, as well as a few additional door locks, unencumbered sleep boosts both mental and physical health.
