The social sciences are about fundamentally questioning even the basest of human instincts and (ideally) being prepared for any outcome. It is about observing how people behave in any aspect, and looking at extremely relative forms of morality. Conservatism is more about maintaining some sort of consistency, loyalty especially to the past and to one's own morality, and is fundamentally built around moral absolutism. So by their very nature, the two of these ideas will be in conflict with one another, and they should be. There aren't going to be equal conservatives and liberals in every profession.

I mean, every study will have bias towards an ideology. Hard science can be seen as bias towards conservative opinions And theology can be seen as bias towards liberalism Economics and business may be seen as bias towards left leaning fiscal ideas

**There is a real lack of political diversity across US (and UK) academia, which is particularly prevalent in the Social Sciences. And it's bad for research.** "A 2014 study conducted by the University of California, Los Angeles, Higher Education Research Institute found that **59.8 percent** of all undergraduate faculty nationwide identify as far left or liberal, compared with only **12.8 percent** as far right or conservative. The asymmetry is much worse in the social sciences. **It is in the nature of the subject to be more aligned with liberals than conservatives.** The liberal to conservative ratio is approximately [50:50 in disciplines such as engineering, computer science, business and technical fields](https://www.irishtimes.com/news/science/why-are-so-many-social-scientists-left-liberal-1.2082755) whereas it is estimated that as few as [5 percent of social scientists are conservative](https://www.irishtimes.com/news/science/why-are-so-many-social-scientists-left-liberal-1.2082755). The statistics therefore point to that, yes, the social sciences **are** biased against conservatives. *However*, I think that this bias is in the very nature of the subject. The social sciences often include disciplines such as political critique and women’s studies which focus on more progressive attitudes and therefore appeal more to liberal academics. Furthermore, the study of others and a greater understanding of our society is more likely to lead to increased tolerance and greater empathy which are typical of more liberal attitudes. This is a contrast to disciplines like business and economics that are more aligned with individualistic, conservative laissez faire values. Therefore this bias is not of ignorance, exclusion or on purpose but is more of an inevitable product of the nature of the study.
