These entities serve as financial institutions to fund state-level infrastructure projects independent of federal programs. While these banks may initially receive federal funding, they should, at least in theory, become self-sufficient in the long run. These banks can use payback to current loan projects to fund future ones. Hence, they create a sustainable market-based solution to infrastructure needs. Many of these projects have led to significant economic benefits. In California, the state infrastructure bank lent San Gabriel $3.8 million for street repairs, enabling the city to generate future economic growth. [1] Establishing these banks at state levels also creates additional benefits. Unlike federal programs, state infrastructure banks have proven better at identifying regional and local needs. These banks cooperate with the federal government only when they see benefits in doing so. Hence, they can ensure the best and most effective use of infrastructure investments in different circumstances. [2].
