In America, healthcare should be paid by the taxpayer (where are our taxes even going at this point??), BUT! before this can happen, people need to stop eating McDonalds and need to start hitting the gym, stop smoking, stop drinking so much, and maintain a well paying job on average. When the country subsidizes everyone's health, it is everyone's obligation to stay as healthy as possible.

Along with many other issues that come with privatised health care in the UK, the main thing that is a concern to me about this is healthcare professionals entering the profession for perhaps the wrong reasons. While I think almost anyone would be lying to themselves not to admit that the earning potential of a career is a significant factor in pursuing it, the main drive to be a doctor for example should be care and compassion for those who are sick or in need. And I think that the privatisation and increased monetisation in the healthcare sector could cloud peoples potential motivation for embarking on a career for which monetary gain should be a lower priority when people’s health and wellbeing is in question.

- It is my belief that healthcare should be a right, not a privilege. If we have a right to life per Article 2 of the European Convention of Human Rights, we have a right to access resources that help us maintain that life. - Public healthcare initiatives like the NHS should receive adequate funding to provide good enough healthcare so people aren’t forced to go private when they cannot afford to do so. Reducing wait times and investing in the healthcare system will ensure that people do not need to go private in the first place. - However, putting pressure on one public health authority will lead to inevitable shortages of money and long waiting lists - which means that if you can afford to circumvent the long waiting times and go to another provider you should be able to do so. - Furthermore, any payments made to improve the experiences of one patient should not disadvantage other patients who do not have the funds.
