**Palestine should not only be recognised as a state in the UK and US, but internationally.** - Recognition would advance the peace process and provide a more equal structure in negotiations between the two sides. - Complications surrounding the determination of borders should not necessarily be a deterrant to international recognition, as Israel’s declaration of independence did not determine borders. - It was assumed by many European countries that recognition of a Palestinian state would be a component of the final status agreement and an incentive to conclude a peace deal. - However, following the [collapse of the peace process](https://www.mei.edu/publications/recognize-or-not-recognize-eu-recognition-palestine) and the diplomatic freeze that has ensued, the issue of recognition has once again arisen, but as a potential diplomatic tool that can be used _before_ an agreement is concluded. - The 'Two State Solution' would not be sufficient - 2021 [studies](https://phys.org/news/2021-02-israelis-unwilling-two-state-solution.html) show a ['growing disillusionment'](https://www.nybooks.com/articles/2009/01/15/how-not-to-make-peace-in-the-middle-east/) with the notion, and that Palestinians will likely require international security guarantees for any peaceful resolution. - Additionally, countries such as the UK which supposedly supports a two-state solution yet does not recognise the state of Palestine is [hypocritical](https://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/uk-government-accused-of-hypocrisy-on-palestine/2249464). - The US pays [billions of dollars](https://uscpr.org/militaryfunding/) to Israel which is used to oppress Palestinians, as well as [millions in aid](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-56665199) to Palestinians which is contradictory. If they were to recognise the state of Palestine and stop paying Israel to maintain control over Palestinian territory it would save them billions of dollars. Similar arguments can be made for several other circumstances, including the use of [EU aid](https://www.thenewfederalist.eu/why-should-the-eu-recognize-the-state-of-palestine?lang=fr).

The EU isn't a place as such and is in no position to recognise nation states. Member states OF the EU may do so as they see fit.
