Feminism · Literature · Politics The literary genre name 'women's fiction' is outdated and sexistAgainst1 comment·Aug 16, 2021
For god's sake. The point of a genre label is to implicate the content. When you hear "women's fiction" You know EXACTLY what type of books are there. That is the only purpose of the label and it works. At this rate in a few years ill have to go to the store and sift through panties and boxers in the same bin because someone got offended that panties were labelled for women. Just stoppp.
Culture Wars · Gender · Grammar · Non-binary · Personal PronounsIt is grammatically correct to use "they/them" as non-binary pronounsCommentary1 comment·Aug 16, 2021
No, because at this rate we will eventually have to refer to people with D.I.D. as plural people.
Emotions · Eternals · PsychologyEmotions are irrationalFor1 comment·Aug 16, 2021
Emotions fundamentally irrational due to their capricious and illogical nature.
Ever caught a liar in the act? They get angry at YOU. Ever stubbed your toe and went from frustration, to anger, to laughing at yourself in less then 5 seconds? None of which helps the pain. Ever struggled to fix something then impulsively smashed the entire thing? Emotions are your brains automatic response to stimuli, but rational thinking is voluntary and learned. That is why men say women are "emotional" Not true, in fact men and women feel the same emotions, just as much. However women (generally) more often make choices BASED on their emotion. Women (and of course sooome men and whoever is in between) will stop and analyze how they feel to make a decision, while men tend to look to external information to make a choice. Hence men arguing with each other for hours over who knows more, while women argue with each other over how they feel. Now...that doesn't mean men are actually better at rational thought though, lol they just try to be. But anyone who makes choices solely on how they feel, surely will realize later that how they felt has changed and their choice overtime WILL be defined as irrational.
Eternals · Politics · VotingThe voting age should stay at 18Against1 comment·Aug 16, 2021
Hell no. No taxation without representation? If we can take a 17 year olds tax dollars when they work, they have every right to vote. You say anyone under 18 isn't educated enough to vote, most older voters ive met have no clue what they are doing and just stick to whatever party they always have, no nuance. We might as well allow younger people to vote since we allow actually r...um mentally handicapped folks, fresh immigrants, people with alzheimers, split personalities, and apparently even the dead to vote.
Culture Wars · How to Live · Race · Racism · RelationshipModern dating has a racial fetishism problemFor1 comment·Aug 16, 2021
People have preferences, can't guilt them for that. Howwwwever, being racially ambiguous myself it does rub me the wrong way when i can change my accent or body language and attract different girls. Living in a majority white area has me often feelin like i'm an entree on a sampler platter, just a notch in girls bedposts, a tick off their checklist of what they want to try in their quest for experience. If i don't like a girl's personality i don't care if shes my fetish i won't sleep with her. But ive learned that girls are generally not like that.
Cultural Relativism · Culture · Eternals · Political SpectrumThere are no savage and civilised peoples; there are only different culturesMixed1 comment·Aug 16, 2021
I agreed because of the definition of civilised is often subjective, relative, and sometimes flatout zenophobic. HOWEVER....somewhere in a jungle there is a man who just finished raping his own teenage daughter and is sitting down to a meal of his neighboring tribes severed limbs. I'm sure we all can agree that some cultures are just f&$#ed.
Children · Eternals · Parenting · Political Spectrum · Punishment · SpankingGood parents sometimes have to spank their childrenFor1 comment·Aug 16, 2021
Spanking has it's place.
Like shock collar training for dogs, most people knee jerk react and consider it a violent act that cannot possibly have a use, but they misunderstand the proper context for spanking. Of course positive reinforcement works with most things, but when it comes to dangerous and violent acts themselves? Spanking is the eye for an eye that a young mind NEEDS to understand how the world actually works without someone big to pick them up and protect them from consequences. You can lecture your child all day about why he shouldn't run out in front of a car, they will NEVER understand, danger itself must be imprinted on a young mind for what it is. In the adult world, actions have physical consequences. If you walk up and grope a woman, you will get slapped. If you walk up to a man and kick him in the nuts, you will get punched. Easily get killed for behavior like that. Teaching children physical consequences cannot be done with words. Rough and tumble play especially between ages 2-4 is how they learn boundaries among peers, but as for conducting themselves on the street? You can't actually let them get hurt but you can give them a permanent reminder that pain follows whatever dangerous action they chose. That, like shock training dogs should only be reserved for the most dangerous issues, life and death. Not over backtalking or forgetting chores or disrespect, that is abuse. See, children often have no fear til they learn , and psychologically/ verbally berating them to feel guilt for an action is not a better solution. Granted most parents misuse spanking, but like (properly) shock training certain dogs, it can save a life later on. Too many adults i meet have never been spanked and they don't have any grasp of consequences, those same adults ive watched get beat up, stabbed, and even shot for repetitive behavior that stems from them thinking that no one can lay a hand on them. You see it with police interactions all the time. REAL world situations have instant painful consequences, like ALL species do, it is a parents duty not to shield a child from all pain, but teach them the purpose of pain, which actions cause pain, therefor teaching them how to avoid it.
