The Afghan army did what it deemed necessary to avoid violence and bloodshed and they are not to blame for the Taliban victory. I do not have any definitive arguments but it seems naive of people and the USA government to think that Afghan citizens and soldiers are willing to fight US wars and conflicts. Why should Afghans lay down their lives fighting the Taliban if the USA has mostly created the problem of the Taliban? Now they are retreating and suddenly the entire country needs to fend for themselves? The USA invaded Afghanistan in a sad attempt to project dominance and action in a post 9/11 world. They went after Osama Bin Laden. OBL was in Pakistan. Pakistan was a US ally. Very embarrassing. Long story short, the US military shouldn't have been in Afghanistan. Wars don't create democracies, not a single war has ever created a democracy. Citizens create democracies.

Listening to a British army general on the radio, he basically said that the soldiers stop getting paid and so that's why so many didn't fight against the taliban. Now whether that was the army at fault or perhaps civil servants in government I'm not sure but can't really blame the soldiers being asked to risk their lives for free.
