Changing your hair is a good way to express yourself to men and women no matter the age. There has been a funny ‘saying’ going around that, you know when you mess up a relationship when a woman changes her hair after the relationship is over. It shows that she is wanting a change. I think that goes for everyone. Changing your hair color and/or style can be seen as a big thing. It's also a good stress reliever when people feel like their life is out of control. One of the things they can control is the style and color of their hair. It may seem strange to some people but to others it is everything. When I was in high school every weekend my best friend and I would color our hair. It was our way of having control over our lives and showing everyone else our ‘true colors’. Personally, those are some of my favorite memories.

Changing your hair is a feeble way to express yourself. Hair is too generic. Everyone has individual differences in their behavior. Still, most people choose to get very similar haircuts. A layered haircut says nothing about who a person is. Colored hair can express but to a minimal extent. This extent is also plagued with stereotypes. Generally, people with short multi-colored hair are considered punks and rebels. That is not true. Expression needs to be in the hands of the ‘expressor.’ Most of the time, we go to the hairdresser to get our hair done. Hairdressers cannot express who we are. Only we can. Most boys have very short hair. We can rarely differentiate a difference in hairstyles. Arguably, that minimal expression can only happen with people who have long hair. Hair is not symbolic of anything. It tells extremely little about a person. Poetry, artwork, book, and movie choices say much more than hair ever will. Tattoos are also a better way of expression.
