Regardless of someone’s political and social stance on, for example, homelessness and giving to the homeless, I think that it is an extremely crucial value for a person to have that they at least feel empathy for and spare a second thought for those suffering and less fortunate than ourselves.

**People cannot get through a tough time if they are dependent on others compassion.** - Compassion is important, but I’ve looked at this with the view of the person who is receiving the compassion instead if those giving it. Personal strength is more important. You need your own strength to get through times of suffering. - Compassion when people are suffering is all well and good, until the person suffering becomes dependent on that compassion. People cannot get through a tough time if they are dependent on others help and cannot help themselves due to it. - Of course compassion for others is important, but there are plenty of other virtues such as selflessness and forgiveness that are equally important. Instead, the most important virtue is that you yourself have the strength to get yourself through suffering. We should never be dependent on others.
