This aphorism can be used to support communism, just as it could be to support [Rawlsian ideas of social justice](https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/original-position/): allow full freedom of invention, and provide a maximum amount of support to those at the bottom.

I would argue yes but only for necessities.
Needs and luxuries should have two completely different economic systems governing them.

How do you differentiate between needs and luxuries?
Food, shelter, utilities… but we live in 2021. Internet and phone service, child care, education, clothing, and transportation are all necessities as well.
They’d have to do extensive research just to differentiate between what’s ‘necessary’ and what’s ‘luxury.’
