I think we have many sides to our nature and one of the sides of our nature, wishes to get revenge against authourity.
Societies have rules. The reason societies have rules, is because many of an individuals impulses and desires, do not fit in what a community agrees to be moral acts or acts that respect others, or the priorities of the community/society.
This being the case, all of us have to "rein in" or "control" our desires and impulses to conform to outside standards.
The individual controlling what he would like to do, because of what he/she "should do" according to outside authourity, is divorced from a part of who he/she is.
There is a part of us that resents this. In our adolescence, many of us act and rebel against the morality, actions and even appearance of our parents or authority, in an effort to discover ourselves.
How we define ourselves is at least partly defined by our desires and choices and to conform to what societies say "should be" us, means we sacrifce a piece of our identity (and awareness or discovery of it) to fit in. There is within us all, from an early age, as a baby, when are parents first restrict us, to our "potty training", through to school onwards, resentment from what we must surpress.
This why so many of us use " sex, drugs and rock and roll" to discover and define ourselves.
I think deep down we all would like to get revenge on society/community for this "self estrangement" and at some point in our lives we do, with our adolescence, or maybe clothes, friends, private or secret actions, or any combination of these. We love to do with what society/community says we shouldn't do.
One of my favourite sayings is: "Individuality cannot be discovered by committee"
