Let’s begin by making a distinction between jogging indoors on a jogging machine and jogging al fresco. Both are boring, but one is easier than the other. The beauty of the jogging machine is not having to plan a route in advance based on elevation, road quality and location. You can choose exactly when you’ll be jogging upwards; free of potholes and without any need to jog through miserable grey parks with adjacent a roads. For many exercise is a nice escape: generally it’s better to jog away from that which you are trying not to be reminded of. If the surroundings were worth taking in you would go for a nice, leisurely walk. There’s no novelty to jogging. It’s something we do often and naturally. That isn’t to say that swimming, rowing and cycling aren’t natural- they’re just activities that come up less often in the wild. That’s obviously an advantage of jogging: there’s not need to spend money on equipment or gym memberships. It’s entirely free (excluding the cost of a decent pair of trainers) and it’s probably the most accessible form of exercise. It’s a matter of personal taste- I personally would and have spent upwards of £15 per month just to avoid the unrelenting monotony of it. It’s worth every penny to never have to run through dog poo again.

I agree. Interestingly, despite being slower and seemingly more boring, I find walking much more enjoyable. Not only is it less strenuous, it also allows for more enjoyment of the surrounding area and is overall a much more pleasant experience. Jogging on the other hand is unnatural and the impact from pavements and roads proves disasterous for joints such as hips and knees - I can attest to this!

Jogging is the most fun form of exercise because it's the only form of exercise where you are not stuck in once particular spot. People dislike jogging, at least outside, find it tiresome because they have to deal with alternating pathways that travel either up, down or need to turn left or right to get out of the way of obstacles. But the inability to stay on one path as opposed to running on a treadmill is the whole reason that jogging is so enticing. It will help joggers become move swiftly through their day-to-day lives. But really, who does not want at least a little variety in their lifestyles? Most people, myself included, would find it soul-sucking to find their lifestyles trapped by doing the same thing endlessly. Normal exercising usually requires individuals to go to one place multiple times a week. They can do different things each time they are there, but they are still in one location. Jogging can help individuals explore the place they live in. They can see multiple ways they can explore the place they live in. So, it does not have to be the same path, nor even the same amount of time. Even a quick five minute jog can feel rewarding in its own right. Furthermore, the actively zealousness of jogging can be the most efficient method of losing and maintaining one's health. Bianca Beldini, quoted in an article on Healthline, stated that "'jogging keeps the heart rate in a low-end heart rate zone, which is considered the 'fat burning' zone'". The body is constantly in a standing position, so body fat is distributed throughout the body equally. And it has to do so since the heart rate is high, so more body fat is burned. Jogging does not have to be a strenuous form of exercise. If viewed correctly, it can be the best form of exercise. It does not have to be a constant thirty minute run every day. It can simply be a nice breeze for only five minutes. It is the most pleasantly arduous form of exercising. And really, since when is exercising supposed to be comfortable? Isn't its activeness the whole point of exercise? I loved your whole argument! And for a person that doesn't do a lot of physical exercise that's saying something. Don't get me wrong. I do take part in physical exercise (I especially like stretching exercises), just not as often as I should. What's more, I particularly liked the part in your argument where you make mention of: "jogging keeps the heart rate in a low-end heart rate zone, which is considered the 'fat burning' zone'". Interestingly, a lot of people don't know that this is actually the key to losing weight (more healthily). Although, for me this is more of a personal health interest, as I'm always more aware of my heart rate when doing any form of exercise - since I have a 'not too serious' heart condition. Nevertheless, [the varied benefits that jogging presents has been proven](https://www.healthline.com/health/exercise-fitness/benefits-of-jogging#exercise-plateau).

**TL;DR: Jogging is the ONLY decent form of exercise that is just exercise.** Sports are games, they're supposed to be fun if you're any good at them. Since I'm not, they're not, but I get that others actually enjoy them. The things that happen in gyms - rippling oleaginous narcissism, barely-concealed auto-erotic competition - shouldn't be legal. And sex doesn't count. Jogging? Whack a [decent podcast](https://www.parlia.com/article/opinion-parlia-podcast) into your headphones - the more intellectually challenging, in my experience, the better, since they force you to concentrate on the ideas - and you take yourself on a mental adventure while virtuously battling the relentless onset of dad bod.

There is nothing I love more than going on a run. I find running can easily be altered depending on the level of runner or whether it is for fun or a more serious form of exercise. It is so easy to change goals and improve whilst being able to actively see the improvement. Additionally, running is great for people-watching, listening to music and spending time outside. As a gym goer what sometimes frustrates me is being constantly stuck inside. Therefore, the ability to run a few times a week in the fresh air is welcome

**Tl;dr: Jogging as a novice is unpleasant but can be fun once you get into a routine** When I initially started jogging, I hated it. The stitches you get when running for too long, the sore runner's feet, and not to mention shin splints if you're particularly unlucky. However, what I love about jogging is how accessible it is. You don't need any pricey gym membership, so it is a great way to stay active for as cheap as possible. All you need is a pair of decent running shoes and you're good to go! Jogging is also a great activity to do with friends, and unlike the gym, which I've found to be a fairly hostile environment, jogging is really social! Running events such as [Parkrun] (https://www.parkrun.org.uk/), are free events that encourage community fitness for people of all fitness levels!

Disagree - I think this idea comes from many people's first attempt at running. Trying to go on a jog can be very gruelling and disheartening when you first begin if you push too hard or don't follow any kind of training plan. However, if you follow a realistic, long term programme like couch to 5k, you can definitely build enough fitness to be able to get into the groove of a run and really enjoy the run itself, not just the way you feel afterwards. Running is also fun because it's so simple and because you can enjoy doing it outdoors. Contrary to popular belief you can definitely build fitness by going at a mostly 'easy' pace, (whatever that might be for you) and only pushing yourself hard occasionally, which can also be fun and satisfying in its own way. David Roche, author of "The Happy Runner" puts it best: “That is the central premise of running training — easy, chill running now begets fast, fun running later.”
