Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic there have been so many twists and turns within government, it has been hard to keep up-to-date. This week has proved a troublesome week for Matt Hancock in particular who was caught via CCTV kissing his political assistant. There are sure some internet conspiracies of who got these tapes and who wants Matt Hancock gone. This put to the side, what has angered me the most, is not even the adultery! He has cheated on his wife, which is obviously awful and what I would consider against the ministerial code. However the bit that has frustrated lots is the hypocrisy. Matt Hancock has stood at the podium on many 5pm evening broadcasts in the UK telling us not to hug family, go near friends and definitely use the rule Hands, Face, Space. All of this was being said whilst he had an affair at work. I saw a tweet of a picture of the Queen who had to sit alone, with a mask on at her own husbands funeral. I am no royalist, but this is saddening when the man who told us all to use our common sense didn’t use his own. His resignation was essential as most of his credibility had been eradicated by not only the words of Dominic Cummings, but now this affair which will stick with him for his political career.
