Private jets greatly harm the environment and are an unnecessary form of travel.

• In just one hour, a single private jet can emit two tons of CO2. The CO2 emissions from private jets are 10x more than those of commercial airlines and 50x more than trains.
• In a survey by Private Jet Card Comparisons, "46% of respondents said they were using private aviation to transport family members, and 45% said they were flying privately to a second home.” These types of trips could easily be made with another mode of transportation that does not negatively impact the environment as much as private jets do.
• The average private jet trip costs $1,300–$3,000 per hour to for a smaller jet plane; $4,000–$8,000 per flying hour for a midsize jet, and $8,600–$13,000 per flying hour for larger private jets. These prices are usually only fathomable for the wealthy, who choose to use private jets mainly for leisure. Private jet trips are a selfish mode of travel due to the disproportionate effects they have on the rest of the world.
• Climate change has already had devastating effects on the environment, and while individuals can do their part to minimize their carbon footprint, corporations and the super-rich need to be held more accountable for their contributions to climate change. Private jets are one of the completely unnecessary forms of travel that prioritize comfort and greed over the wellbeing of the planet.

It's not as simple as just banning private jets. The most realistic way to tackle the industry's impact on the environment is through increased taxation.

• Flying private is unequivocally worse for the environment than flying commercially. Private air crafts make air travel significantly easier for those who can afford it.

Because of COVID dangers, it proved a much safer and more flexible way of travelling. The reality is that this isn't an industry that's going to go away.

• So what are our options, then? The luxury of a private jet does not warrant the damage it does to our world.

• I have nothing against people spending their money how they want. However, the aviation industry accounts for 3.5% of the worlds global warming. It seems to me that having private jets on top of normal air travel is an unnecessary expense to the environment.
• The people who use private jets could just a normal plane, but choose not too. So, instead of the CO2 coming from just one plane, it comes from two. This seems unnecessary. As it becomes more obvious of the impact of global warming, people should be thinking about their own CO2 footprint. This could, and should result in private jets being banned or at least used less.

In most cases Private Jets should be banned

• The majority of flights in Private jets are unnecessary and could be flown on a shared flight or by alternative transport which would be more carbon friendly

• The carbon footprint of the richest in society, who take Private jets, is already [disproportionately large] , this is extremely unjust especially as the poorer people in society who are less responsible for climate change will suffer the effects more
• In some cases of security Private jets are warranted such as world leaders flying, as it would not be safe for them to fly on commercial flights

While I do lean against this, I do think private jets should have to be held to much stricter environmental standards than public airplanes. Public airplanes are remarkably efficient in terms of emissions-per-person. Only passenger trains beat them, and they are largely impractical in the US for the distances covered by planes. Their efficiency comes almost entirely from the number of people they can carry.

A small handful of people in an airplane is extremely inefficient, and thus should have to be held to much more stringent standards. However, I don't think this is enough to necessitate the elimination of private planes altogether.

I wouldn't be overly opposed to such a bill, but I certainly wouldn't propose it myself.
