**TL;DR** - **The best crisps are bacon flavoured crisps, specifically Frazzles** Before beginning, it must be stressed that are **vegetarian** although they are _not_ suitable for vegans. As a bacon-flavoured corn-based snack, Frazzles come as close as is possible to replicating the taste of bacon. This is not something that is said lightly. What also adds to the mystique of Frazzles is that they are not particularly easy to find. Generally, supermarkets in the UK do not have them and so you have to try your luck at off-licences. However, if you can find them, then it is a great moment.

**TL;DR: Perfectly simple, yet still deliver on the flavour front.** - The three most humble yet classic and beloved crisp flavours are ready salted, cheese and onion, and salt and vinegar, and of these three, salt and vinegar reigns supreme. While we have a variety of exciting flavours on the market these days, the simplicity of these three flavour combinations makes them timeless and versatile, perfect to pair with any sandwich at lunchtime, pint at the pub, or dip at a party. - An intense flavour is a must for any crisp, putting ready salted out of the running for the top spot, as many brands make them too bland. Cheese and onion provide an intense flavour, however the smell makes them the antisocial choice. This leaves salt and vinegar, which one-ups ready salted on flavour, and can also be enjoyed around other people. - And finally…what do you put on your chips at the fish and chip shop? Enough said. Salt, vinegar, and the potato crisp are the strongest flavour combination in the snack aisle.

**Extremely tasty but possibly painful.** - They’re tasty. Salt and vinegar crisps are tangy and full of flavour. - Ready salted crisps are too plain, BBQ can sometimes be too beefy, cheese and onion is the only other flavour that can really challenge salt and vinegar. Other spin off flavours are often just not up to the same standard as salt and vinegar. Due to the other flavours just not meeting the mark, salt and vinegar excels. - If you have a cut in your mouth, and you eat the crisps, it is super painful. It feels like your mouth is on fire. Obviously you could just not eat the crisps, but this is still a negative point.

**Salt and Vinegar crisps have the potential to be the best, but often many brands of crisps don't achieve the right flavour profile** - Salt and Vinegar crisps when done well should be equally salt and vinegar flavoured, more often than not brands such as Walkers go much heavier on the salt flavour than the vinegar flavour. This does not achieve the right salt and vinegar flavour profile and is bland - Salt and Vinegar crisps also need to be thick cut the thinner crisps eg. walkers don't have the right texture or thickness to be a sufficient vehicle for the flavouring

**Salt and vinegar chips are tangy, piquant companions to a snacking impulse; they are an exemplary side to a rounded meal, enveloping your taste buds in the indulgence of salty, acidic sumptuousness.** When classic salted lacks that satisfying _kick_; when creamy, cheesy, onion flavours settle too heavily in your stomach or on your tongue; when spice burns your belly and wackier flavours remain as tastes yet-to-be-acquired, salt and vinegar emerges as an ideal choice. - Salt and vinegar chips are not only available wrapped and enveloped in plastic and oil; you can emulate this indulgent flavour experience at home, healthy and fresh and equally comforting. Dip kale, sweet potato, and potato chips in vinegar seasoned with salt to taste, guilt-free and easy. - Any mature, seasoned chef knows that a complete dish calls for the balancing entr'acte of acidity. Pair your umami encrusted and marinated proteins, enveloped in soft, buttery carbs or vegetal, bitter greens, with the biting recess of salt and vinegar chips on the side. Without acidity, a dish is missing a crucial constituent that uplifts heavier tastes (bitter, buttery, bready, umami) and entangles any sweetness and spice with a dramatic, enthralling interplay of brightness and zest. - Experience the ambrosian sensation of your mouth watering as your tongue responds to the acerbic vinegar and accentuating impact of the accompanying salt. You feel a satisfying burn on your tongue and your lips, tart's equivalent of the rushing, satiating waves of spice that we endure for its gratifying flavour enhancing effects. Even as the flavour burns the softer corners of your mouth, the delicate soreness completes the experience. Try a handful of salt and vinegar flavoured chips, homemade or otherwise, next time you need a comfort food with a kick of flavour, or an easy addition to round out a homey meal.
