**Despite the disputes between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China and the lack of universal international recognition, Taiwan's government has proven to have been a sustainable and mature democracy.** That Taiwanese nationalism is a very recent development requires no need to dispute: before the Chinese Civil War, the geographical region of Taiwan has been firmly within Qing Dynasty's hands. The shared culture, language, and history between mainland China and Taiwan certainly makes a separate Taiwan a concept difficult to accept. Despite these realities, however, one cannot deny that one of the major parties in Taiwan, the Kuomingtang, spearheaded the Xinhai Revolution, which was responsible for the end of a dynastic China and the rapid transition of China into a modern country. The Kuomingtang was and is an internationally recognized legitimate party and its founding precedes that of the Chinese Communist Party. Hence, in terms of national origins, the Republic of China deserves to claim to be a legitimately founded nation. Furthermore, the government of Taiwan nowadays has proven to be one of the most mature and sustainable democracies in the world. Despite its territorial disputes with Mainland China, its territorial integrity over the Taiwan peninsula is undisputed and universally recognized. All of these are ingredients towards a legitimate sovereign nation.
