I am a second-year student at Bowdoin College who has a strong fascination with the humanities. Literature, linguistics, history, philosophy... all of these domains of knowledge have guided my intellect for years and I seek to continue to explore them in my college years. Currently, my strongest interest is in ethics, the branch in philosophy that deals with morality and value. I am strongly interested in all aspects of morality — the nature of morality, the origins of morality, the relationship between morality and society, the basis of morality in our psychology, etc. I am currently considering doubling majoring in philosophy and psychology so, in an interdisciplinary manner, I am able to study the origins of moral judgments in our brain. Another branch of philosophy in which I take a keen interest is philosophy of religion. As a person who has struggled with faith throughout my life, philosophical issues surrounding religion, such as the existence of God, the relationship between science and religion, continue to fascinate me. Besides philosophy, I also really enjoy literature — especially reading and writing poetry — and history. I am the most interested in English Renaissance and 18th century poetry and I myself publish the poems that I write on social media. I am also very interested in medieval French and English history.
