**TL;DR A three-day weekend would be beneficial for workers health, it would allow them more time to enjoy life outside of work**. A three-day weekend is a good idea because it would promote a healthier work / life balance. This would benefit both mental and physical health. Professor John Ashton, who is one of Britain’s leading Doctors, has stated that a [three-day weekend is needed to combat stress.](https://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/jul/01/uk-four-day-week-combat-stress-top-doctor) This is because it would allow people to spend more time with their families or exercising, the extra time to socialise and be a part of nature would do a wonder of good for many people. It would provide more time to switch their ‘work brain’ off and be able to relax. The President of the UK faculty of Public Health has also stressed the importance of moving towards a four-day working week. He claims that, ‘when you look at the way we lead our lives, the stress that people are under, the pressure on time on sickness absence, mental health is clearly a major issue.’ It is obvious that the pressure of work is having a negative effect on mental health, a three-day weekend could be one of the solutions to combat this. Prof John Ashton also highlights the dangerous physical threats that a stressful work / life balance can cause. These medical ailments include [high blood pressure, increased risk of heart attack, insomnia, headaches, heartburn and many other complications.]( https://www.healthline.com/health/stress/effects-on-body) A three-day weekend would reduce the amount of working hours, which could be very beneficial in limiting the amount of medical risk that the workers expose themselves to. There is no doubt that the implementation of a three-day weekend would be great for the mental and physical health of many people. It would develop a better work / life balance and allow people to spend more time on the activities they enjoy.

I'm still convinced there's no high more intense than, on a Sunday night, realizing that Monday is a labor holiday

Do weekends as we knew them actually exist these days? Now that 7 day opening of everything is the norm people often have to work on a traditional weekend and though they will then have days off during the week actually coordinating family time together is becoming increasingly difficult for many.

Interesting opinion! I am all for three-day weekends, but does this mean that the workdays will be busier? Or loaded with more work hours maybe? I believe there is a danger of this backlashing somehow, as mental health will be impaired if the other weekdays are more hectic. Will this create a routine of extremeties as a too-busy week is followed by a relaxing three-day weekend?

For many, working frequently is a choice. [Over 1/3 of self employed people work at least 45 hours per week](https://www.managementtoday.co.uk/why-three-day-weekend-wouldnt-work/innovation/article/1429430). Culturally, we are inclined to strive for the best and be productive with our time, altering to a three day weekend would impact those who want to strive for more than comfort. Many people who work a lot do so through choice, if not, part time work would be an option for them. According to psychology professor Barry Swartz, [many satisfied people work because they feel they are in charge and allows them to exit their comfort zone](https://qz.com/498951/why-work-a-psychologist-explains-the-deeper-meaning-of-your-daily-grind/#:~:text=Satisfied%20people%20do%20their%20work,measure%20of%20autonomy%20and%20discretion.&text=and%20as%20people.-,Satisfied%20people%20do%20their%20work%20because%20they%20feel%20that%20they,an%20opportunity%20for%20social%20engagement. ).This may be why so many choose to work so frequently. Working can offer us a sense of purpose and a way to strive for more. This makes the time they do have off more valuable. Working has become a cultural norm and changing the way we work may impact many people more negatively, stripping them of their purpose.

I like my 5/2. But I think I might equally like a 3/1 or a 7/3 3 days on, 1 day off: no massive weekend unwind, but a day off work every 3 would mean you stagger your partying more naturally, and have regular time to do household chores, your own creative projects, etc... 7 days on, 3 days off: tiring, but the weekend would be a proper stop. Thinking about it, you'd likely need a half-day break in the middle...

I am definitely for a three day weekend. I would much rather work for longer hours and have a longer weekend than having a five day week. Currently I work 48 hours a week in 12 hour night shifts. Whilst I would prefer to not work night shifts, I definitely prefer the longer shifts (maybe not 12 hours) to have the longer weekend. It allows me more time to look after my health by both having time to relax and decompress but also have time to socialise (when I can!) without it affecting my weekend. I find the two day weekend does not allow enough time for socialising and relaxing from the previous weeks work.
