I believe we should host ballroom dances when the pandemic is over. Netflix’s series, Bridgerton, insisted a craze across social platforms for Regency era fashion and customs. Tiktok was filled with people dressing in corsets and others creating a Bridgerton musical. Not only is there an interest in this era, once people are able to leave their homes and gather again in groups, there is going to be a need for more social gatherings. If we host classic balls, there will be a chance for people to display fine pieces in their wardrobe which they may not be able to do elsewhere. There have been videos on Tiktok of people wearing prom dresses and tuxes to the grocery store, and even more videos of people making these types of clothes. Male identifying people can display their most dashing tuxes, and female identifying can bring out the elaborate gowns that have been sitting in the back of the closet. These balls could be themed as well. They could be simple, dress fancy. They could also be masquerades. The possibilities are endless. If these balls were to use the same social cues as they did in the Regency era (minus the lack of women and people of color rights), we could hint back to our time in social distancing by having couples not dare to be closer than six feet from each other. Perhaps I hold this opinion because I have been binging period dramas, but I believe, once the pandemic is over, it would be amazing to have the chance to twirl around a ballroom in a gown
