Equity revolves around the idea everyone is entitled to the same level of treatment.

Equality revolves around giving everyone the same chances.

Equity encourages everyone to work to the minimum standard.

Equality encourages meritocracy, success through hard work, knowledge, intelligence, strength, etc.

Equity would see talentless garage bands given the same treatment as mozart.
Equality would see the same garage band able to reach a similar level, should they put in the work.

In the eyes of the Law, at least in the UK, people are equal.
This means everyone's rights, rights meaning a legal entitlement, are equal.

What 'Equal Rights' groups are currently advocating for, is unequal rights, in order to balance perceived bias as the result of individuals. For example, 'affirmative action' places more merit on 'minority' characteristics, than character or merit. Giving those within minority groups an advantage over majority groups per capita.
