**TL;DR: Equal rights have not gone far enough seeing as people still do not have equal rights. Simple as that.** * What exactly are “equal rights”? Can equity truly be summed up by this simple blanket statement? How can human rights ever go too far? People are still out fighting for things such as paid maternal leave, housing equity, clean water, the right to adopt children, healthcare, etc., etc. It does not make sense to say “equal rights have gone too far” when the movement toward equity is truly still beginning.

**Although we have made great strides within the last century, we still have some way to go** - Women’s rights have come a long way - although this could definitely be improved financially speaking. The [Global Gender Gap report](http://www3.weforum.org/docs/WEF_GGGR_2020.pdf) indicates that no one alive today, or our children will see gender parity. - LGBTQIA rights still need more pushing - HIV/AIDS stigma, homophobia and transphobia remain high despite strides being taken towards the recognition of their rights in the last decade. - Race relations still contentious - this [article](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/16/racism-in-the-uk-still-rife-say-majority-of-britons) demonstrates the existing racism in the UK and the struggle to elimate it in our lifetimes.

In the eyes of the Law, at least in the UK, people are equal. This means everyone's rights, rights meaning a legal entitlement, are equal. What 'Equal Rights' groups are currently advocating for, is unequal rights, in order to balance perceived bias as the result of individuals. For example, 'affirmative action' places more merit on 'minority' characteristics, than character or merit. Giving those within minority groups an advantage over majority groups per capita.

Equal rights are where they need to be, in law everyone is equal, and have equal opportunities. Equality of outcome will never happen without an extreme authoritarian influence and mass oppression.

I think in most western civilizations, everyone is equal under the law, and that's probably the best you can ever do for equal rights. "Far enough", does not make sense to me because to me, there's no degree of equality. It's either you're equal or not. If it's granting special privileges like affirmative action or quotas, then you've crossed the finish line of equality and somehow ended up at the starting line like a video game.
