Abortion should be available to women. Period. Mistakes can happen to where a woman becomes pregnant and she is just flat out not ready, or she already has many mouths to feed with no additional help. There are even situations where the woman's body can’t take the pregnancy and there are high odds that it would kill her. In some states in the US it is illegal for her to seek an abortion for her own health. There are countless sad stories about situations similar to this. Abortion doesn’t need to become a religious debate. But what a woman does with her body shouldn’t be everyone’s business. If your neighbor was thinking about it, and you don’t generally talk to her. Is it really your place?
One of the biggest (US) arguemnts against abortion is that taxpayers should not be paying for it. And I happen to agree with this. But that doesn’t mean that abortion shouldn’t be made available. It is a form of healthcare and should be available to all.
Abortion can't be justified. Killing an innocent baby can't can't be justified.
It is critical to interpret the situations where abortion can be justified. Furthermore, the differentiation between what is considered to be a human life compared to a human being. Scientists are inclined to agree that human cells that possess the human genome are living cells, although this does not convey the idea that life starts at fertilisation. Moreover, this is also the reason that we’re able to differentiate ourselves from animals as we have a higher intellectual capacity and more self awareness. Regardless, biologically speaking, the development of the human brain occurs between 27 to 30 weeks as it begins to mature and resemble that of a newborn child. However, such development and formation of motor-neurones, whilst they can cause reflexes, cannot be represented in the same way as functional connectivity. Essentially, in order to have an intellectual capability to establish self-awareness from that of human beings, even at this point: we are cognitively different without post birth development. An example for which echos such development is a sea cucumber in terms of our reflexes and processing skills. Nevertheless, functional connectivity doesn’t occur until approximately 27 weeks, which is far past the majority of abortion deadlines.
No matter what precautions or federal laws are implemented to try outlaw abortion, as such as any other ‘crime’, people will find a way; desperation often outweighs legality within the criminal justice system. The World Health Organisation has estimated over 47,000 women have died due to unsafe abortion procedures, and an additional 5,000,000 women have been left disabled due to such. It is impossible to ignore a health crisis on this scale that is caused from, what many describe as a huge immoral, social injustice. I believe that these figures are bound to rise if pregnant individuals are unable to be in control of their own bodies.
I think it's critical to interpret the situations where abortion can't be justified. If you choose to have unprotected sex and pregnancy is the result, that's on you. Pretending that carrying through that pregnancy is being 'forced' to have a baby is lying about the consequences of your actions. You are creating a human life, someone who has never existed before and will never exist again, something special, something unique, but that should be extinguished just because you're 'not ready' for it. Well why didn't you put a rubber at the end of it when the child was conceived?
Abortion is an example of liberalism run amok. Denial of science and ending the life of a baby in order to continue a partying lifestyle. Meanwhile the abortion corporations continue to massively profit off of societal degeneracy (just like every major corporation). Feminists will often say "it's my body", but the baby is not part of her body, it is a separate human being with its own set of DNA and its own organs. I've heard the argument that improving social welfare programs for struggling families will reduce abortion, even though I doubt it because it's often done for convenience, I do agree that poor and working class families should benefit from social programs and have a robust safety net, including guaranteed housing, free healthcare, and free education for all.
Bravo sir!
It is wrong to murder people.
With emphasis on availability, yes, absolutely. Is abortion advisable and the first option? No. Education and prevention of pregnancy must come first. Abortion should be a last resort. Education hurts no one. There are people who make mistakes, and even though there is a chance they will not learn from the mistakes, they should still get a chance. Another very important point is that in some cases, a pregnancy could result in serious health consequences for the mother, sometimes as serious as death. Would it be moral to allow the mother to die or experience permanent illness or injury?
Education will prevent abortion; people (men and women) must be taught to be responsible and while abstinence only is the best way, it's simply impossible to force everyone to adhere to these standards. The next step is birth control (pills, sterilization, condoms, etc.).
On the morality side, it can be argued that ending the life of a separate organism (any time after conception) is wrong, but it also must be considered that once the baby is born, it might be born in a toxic environment in which the parent(s) is/are unable or unwilling to care for the child. The child will suffer more and so will the parents. If abortion is wrong, steps should be taken to ensure that the child grows up in a safe environment, which is often not the case.
It can further be argued that women who typically need abortions are prone to a risky lifestyle and are therefore, on average, less fit to be parents. What should the solution to this be? A risky lifestyle is often correlated with lower education, so it would make sense that education can prevent both the risky lifestyle and the problems that come from it (unwanted pregnancy).
And finally, abortion, if outlawed, will still occur, only illegally and unsafely, or a mother will travel to another state where it is legal.
