We’re Parlia - the encyclopaedia of opinion.
We are building the biggest debate resource in the world and we need your help.
Whether it’s the existence of God, the rights and threats of AI, or whether we should count the hotdog as a sandwich, there is a finite number of arguments about everything. We want to map them all.
What Wikipedia has done for facts, we want to do for opinions, and that’s why we’re coming to you.
“He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that.”
John Stuart Mill, On Liberty, 1859.
Debaters put themselves in the shoes of their opponents every time they argue. You are brilliant, versatile thinkers, you are hyper-articulate, and you are exceptional researchers. More than anything, you’re not just committed to the idea of free speech, you embody it.
But here’s a thing: debating is like live music. Once the performance is over, it’s gone. Of course you get the pleasure of the fight, sometimes the pleasure of the win, but all that thinking, all that careful formulation of argument is lost in the wind.
Parlia wants to capture all your intellectual labour and make it available to the world, so others can build on your work and take it forward. We are all standing on the shoulders of giants.
We want to build Parlia into the biggest debate resource in the world.
We want to build a monument to ideas.
Because we think we can make a major contribution to our understanding of ourselves and each other, and build a foundation stone of civil discourse.
